Five Days In

We’re now five days into the program.

The good news: the roommate issue that dominated the first few days has been resolved. It wasn’t easy, but it’s behind us — and that alone is a huge relief.

The harder part? Everything else.

Willy’s intellect continues to blow us away. He’s able to express things with depth and clarity that most people — at any age — struggle to access. Today, for the first time, I heard him say the kinds of things I hope to hear when this program is over. He knows what needs to be done. He can see it. That’s progress. That’s a gift.

But make no mistake — this is still a grind.

Willy is 29. He misses the comforts of “home,” and all that word means. He thinks he’s “got it” and doesn’t need to stay. That’s not stubbornness — that’s OCD. It plays tricks. It tells you that once one thing is solved, you're fine. But this condition is like whack-a-mole — resolve one thing, and another pops up.

The truth is: the work is just beginning. But today, I saw progress. I saw insight.

Even with the challenges, I’m more convinced than ever this is where he needs to be. And I’m hopeful we’re on the path forward — one day at a time.

More soon.
